Beyond the Dead of Night

A Decade of Sonic Metamorphosis

In 2013, songwriter and keyboardist Carl Eden set out to fuse his five decades of keyboard mastery with the dark, cinematic weight of metal. The result was 'Dead of Night,' a project that didn't just walk onto the scene - it erupted. Their 2014 debut, The Dead Shall Rise, featuring the powerhouse vocals of Courtney Cecere and the soaring guitars of Hadian Gates, was met with immediate acclaim, with Power Play magazine declaring it a "stunning debut album."

But in the world of Progressive Metal, change is the only constant. Following Cecere’s departure, the band welcomed vocalist Briony Featon into the fold. Not content with just moving forward, they looked back, meticulously re-recording their debut to capture this new vocal energy, resulting in the definitive version fans know today: The Dead Shall Rise Again (2016).

The evolution continued as the band's sound grew more intricate. With the arrival of guitarist Dan Roberts and the thunderous, melodic bass work of Jason Peacock, the band entered a prolific era. This lineup pushed the boundaries of the genre, releasing the mystical In Search of Ancient Magic in 2017, followed quickly by the conceptually dense The Evolving Science of Self in 2018.

After a period of strategic silence, or perhaps just a very long pause to recalibrate the synthesisers, the band has re-emerged in 2025 with a new name and a final, definitive sound. Now operating as Beyond the Dead of Night, they have reached the apex of Symphonic Progressive Metal with their fourth album, From the Ocean to the Stars.

It has been a twelve-year journey from the "Dead" to the "Stars," and we are thrilled to have you along for the ride. Buying our albums from us rather than streaming ensures we can keep the orchestras lush, the guitars heavy, and the time signatures appropriately confusing!
